Schengen Application Form
The correct short-term (Type C) visa application form must be fully completed in English or Italian and signed by the applicant. Ensure the form is legible and all sections pertaining to your travel are filled out accurately.
Valid Passport
Your passport must be valid for a minimum of three months after your scheduled departure date from the Schengen Area. It must have been issued within the last ten years and contain at least two consecutive blank pages for the visa sticker and border stamps.
Passport Photos
Two recent color photographs, taken within the last six months, are required. They must adhere to strict Schengen photo standards: a white background, 35mm x 40mm in width, showing a close-up of the head (face taking up 70-80% of the photograph) with a neutral expression.
Travel Medical Insurance
A valid travel insurance policy is mandatory and must provide coverage throughout the entire Schengen Area for your trip duration. The policy must clearly show a minimum medical coverage of €30,000 for emergency medical treatment and repatriation expenses.
Proof of Travel (Itinerary)
This includes confirmed reservations for a round-trip ticket that shows both your arrival and departure dates from the Schengen Area. A detailed, day-by-day travel plan or itinerary is also required, specifying which cities in Italy and other Schengen countries you plan to visit.
Proof of Accommodation
Confirmed and fully paid accommodation bookings (hotel reservations or confirmed Airbnb bookings) for every night of your stay in Italy and any other Schengen country are essential. If staying with a host, an official “Dichiarazione di Ospitalità” (Declaration of Hospitality) or invitation letter must be provided.
Proof of Financial Means
You must submit bank statements (typically covering the last three to six months) showing consistent transactions and a stable, positive balance. This serves to prove you have sufficient financial resources to cover all expenses connected to your travel and stay in Italy, as per the Italian Ministry of Interior directives.
Proof of Employment / Ties to Home Country
Documents establishing strong socio-economic ties to your home country are crucial to demonstrate your intent to return. This involves an employment letter (stating salary, position, and approved vacation dates), proof of self-employment (tax returns/business registration), or a university enrollment letter for students.
Proof of Legal Residence
If you are a resident but not a citizen of the country where you are applying, a copy of your current residence permit is required. This permit must retain a validity of at least three months beyond the date you intend to leave the Schengen territory.
Documents for Minors (Under 18)
Additional requirements include the minor’s Birth Certificate and, if traveling alone or with only one parent, a notarized Parental Authorization Form or letter of consent signed by the non-accompanying parent(s) along with copies of their passports.
