Schengen Application Form

One application form duly completed, printed, and signed by the applicant. The form must be completed online via the government’s consular services website and printed for the appointment. Parents or legal guardians must sign on behalf of minors.

Valid Passport

Must be valid 3 months beyond your intended date of departure from the Schengen area; must have been issued within the last 10 years; must contain at least 2 blank pages. A copy of all pages of the passport is usually required.

Passport Photos

One recent (6 months maximum), color photo meeting standard Dutch passport photo requirements, against a white or light-colored background.

Travel Medical Insurance

Valid throughout the entire Schengen area; minimum coverage of €30,000 for medical expenses, urgent hospital treatment, and repatriation costs, including in the event of death. The policy must clearly state its validity for the Schengen area.

Proof of Travel (Itinerary)

Confirmed round-trip flight reservations and a detailed travel plan covering all destinations and means of transport within the Netherlands and the broader Schengen area. (Note: travel tickets do not need to be paid for.)

Proof of Accommodation

Confirmed hotel or rental accommodation reservations for the entire duration of the trip. If staying with a host, a formal Proof of Sponsorship and/or Private Accommodation form from the host, authenticated by the local municipality, is required.

Proof of Financial Means

Original bank statements (for the last 3-6 months, stamped by the bank) proving sufficient funds. The required minimum is €55 per person per day for the duration of the intended stay. Alternatively, a sponsor in the Netherlands can provide a guarantee through the official sponsorship form.

Proof of Employment / Ties to Home Country

A recent statement from your employer (on company letterhead, stating job title, contract duration, and approved leave dates) and/or bank statements/payslips from the previous 3 months. For students, proof of enrolment is needed.

Proof of Legal Residence (If Applicable)

Valid residence permit in your current country of residence (if you are not a national); this permit must be valid 3 months beyond your intended departure from the Schengen area.

Documents for Minors (Under 18)

Original Birth Certificate, a consent form signed by the parents or guardians not travelling with the minor, and copies of both parents’ passports or IDs.

• Keukenhof Gardens (Lisse) (One of the world’s largest flower gardens, famous for its incredible display of tulips and other spring flowers, open only in spring)

• Kinderdijk Windmills (UNESCO World Heritage Site, a unique cluster of 19 beautifully preserved 18th-century windmills used for water management)

• Zaanse Schans (Open-air museum village with preserved historic wooden houses, windmills, traditional crafts (clogs, cheese), and working workshops)

• Giethoorn (Often called the “Venice of the North,” a village with no roads, relying entirely on canals and bridges for transport)

• Alkmaar Cheese Market (Traditional cheese market operating during summer months, demonstrating the historic way cheese was traded)

3. Nature & Coastal Regions

• De Hoge Veluwe National Park (One of the largest nature reserves, known for its heathlands, sand dunes, forests, and the Kröller-Müller Museum (Van Gogh collection))
• Scheveningen (Coastal district of The Hague, famous for its long sandy beach, pier, lighthouse, and seaside resort atmosphere)
• Frisian Islands (Wadden Islands) (A chain of islands in the north, known for their unique ecosystems, mudflat hiking, and quiet, natural beaches)
• De Biesbosch National Park (Vast freshwater tidal wetlands, a vital area for water birds, ideal for canoeing and wildlife spotting)
